http://elitedaily.com/news/politics/can-help-dogs-puerto-rico-hurricane-maria/2077346/With Hurricane Irma hitting Puerto Rico and then Hurricane Maria hitting and causing a huge tragedy to this U.S. territory . They have been facing many challenges for this island and many will be facing endless problem. However, people aren't the only ones who are living with the effects Hurricane Maria, but so are many dogs. Limited supply of things to rescue humans and dogs has really shortened the resources needed to help save these dogs.Puerto Rico has numerous of stray dogs that stroll the streets in look for food and shelter. These numbers keep rising in stray dogs due to many fleeing the island and leaving their dogs behind. This isn't the only problem, but the lack of spay and nurturer is always causing a rise in more dogs being born. In which many dogs that are being left behind tend to not be spayed or nurtured and many are left to breed or keep on breeding. Luckily, there are many great organizations within the island that are rescuing many dogs, but the downfall is many of these organizations receive little to no aide from the government. There are ways we can help and one way we can help is by donating. You can also, help and volunteer, but since we live far we can simply donate to help the dogs and people in need. https://www.thesatoproject.org/donate/https://www.thesatoproject.org/donate/

http://www.sfchronicle.com/nation/article/Phones-help-crabbers-retrieve-gear-before-it-12198817.phpCountless amounts of whales have been entangled by ropes, anchors, buoys, and fishing gear causing harm towards the endangered species. As, of last year there has been recorded reports that 50 reports of whales have been trapped and entangled in the East Coast. Well, in the West Coast there has been a report of 48 whales being entangled and trapped. These accidental entanglements are hurting the whales by gouging their flesh or mouths, weaken them, drown them, and possibly kill them over time. A California fisherman named Bunch is heading out to the ports where he goes and catches crab every season to test a new software on his phone that has a GPS. The GPS helps spot lost or abandoned fishing gear before it is able to hurt any whales. Off season Bunch is out working and testing out his new software in which he spots a Humpback whale. In which it does help him use his new software and is able to being in all his fishing gear just in time before the whale approaches the gear. Even though most of the California fisherman are apart of the Nature Conservancy Environmental Group they are the second largest identifiable source of fishing gear that is entangling whales along the West Coast. Overall, these fisherman are trying to find ways in order to help illuminate the harm of whales.
The reason many of us should care about this is because we do live in California and we should be aware of what our fisherman are doing. They are aware of their actions and are working on ways how to fix this. Which is a great start in knowing that they are aware and are working and willing to help fix this issue. http://www.sfchronicle.com/science/article/Sea-otters-treated-in-Marin-may-be-victims-of-12167982.phpToday two California sea otters are currently being treated at Center in the Bay Area that specializes in brain lesions. As, of right now the otters are at the center for the same neurotoxion that closed the Dungeness Crab Fishery two years ago.Which killed hundreds of sea creatures according to officials. Veterinarians at the Marine Mammal Center are rehabilitating the animals and currently fitting them to high-tech transitions. In hopes to indicate this mystery of why these beloved animals have not fully recovered from the ravages of the long banned fur trade. The Marine Mammal Center isn't able to determine what is exactly poisoning these otters. Due to the toxins building up slowly in their systems. Johnson a vet at the center believes it could possibly be a poisoning case from a new alge bloom. The alge bloom could be possibly cropping up or toxins from the old alge is still affecting marine life once again. Before, releasing the otters back into the ocean Johnson is planting a monitor to the otters. The monitor is a new tool called Life History Transmitters in which this will be able to track many things. Such as, the location of the otter, water depths, movements, and send data out when exposed to air. In hopes this will shed light on otters and get a better insight to this mysterious problem. According to Johnson they are basically starting from scratch to indicate how the domoic acid is affecting otters.
The reason we should take this issue into consideration for many reasons. Sea otters have been pushed to extinction before.Due, to the fact that many humans wanted to make a profit off their fur. Which is a wrong thing to do and a reason to kill a poor innocent animal for one's selfish wants. We should care about this issue because we can't let these beloved creatures face extinction once again. They play a huge role in the ocean and they deserve the proper care in order to indicate what's the problem. This is our chance to repay the otters in away by helping and caring for our oceans to put an end to this poisoning as soon as possible. |
